Default Good (inexpensive) restaurants in Santo Domingo

Hi all
I know we have had similar themes and lists, but they are all a bit dated, or they include very expensive restaurants.
What I would to achieve with this list is restaurants that you have been to, would visit again and are not overly expensive, say less than US$20 per head for a meal.
Maybe if you can indicate:
-name and location of restaurant
-type of food
-cost per head
-your rating out of 10

I'm going to Meson b'Bari tomorrow, so will add my review afterwards.

Adrian Tropical - Any of their locations are nice. However, the one on the Malecon (ocean front) is, well, on the ocean! Very nice! But, the newest one on Lincoln is spectacular.

Food is excellent and it will be just short of $20.00 a head, but that will include everything. I highly recommend the Adrian Tropical's version of cordon blue. It is excellent and if I remember form a week ago, it was 500 pesos.

All the food is based on traditional Dominican food. Service is very good

As far as a rating goes I will say this. I am a little picky. I have eaten at all of the Adrian Tropical's locations and have always enjoyed the experience.

Restaurant Bella Cristal serves the best Chinese food in SD. You will have to eat like a horse to even spend $20 per person there. Large AC dining room. All of the cooks are Chinese. Seats about 200 and is usually full for lunch. About 150 items on the menu. Try the Fried Chicken Chinese Style and the fresh fish Chinese style.

Roberto Pastoriza No. 458 Between Lincoln and Churchill.

Another place I like is in the Hotel Suizo, not sure of the spelling. It is just off the Malecon on the street where the large statue of a Needle on the Malecon. It is on your left turning off the Malecon. Swiss run, very good food at the price you are looking for or less.

One of my favorites right now is Vizcaya (Address: Av. San Martín #42 esq. calle Dr. Delgado) Their specialty is Steaks, but I usually get the Cordon Bleu (RD$350). We ate there the other night and the total bill for 3 people was $1790. The service is great and food even better!!

Meson de Luis on Hostos, across from Hotel Mercure's main entrance.
A little bit of everything...excellent lambi, chivo y camarones....daily specials too.
You can easily eat for $20USD per person (although I never do...my bar tab is at least that for lunch!)

Parillia de Luis on the Malecon is good and you can eat within your budget there as well

Default Chalet Suizo

Old established pub/restaurant, a little out of town, on the Malecon going towards Haina (Km 10) just west of Casa de Espana. Off street parking in the yard. Small delicatessen shop on site. Closed Monday.

Swiss proprietor and chef, Paul Scherer, plays the excellent host. Swiss/German food with a home-made style but executive quality. Everything from steaks to sauerkraut - no French fries, and a great selection of beers from Presidente Barrill to first class bottled German beers. Saturday night live music, easy listening and rock & blues.

Prices around US$20 per head including a couple of beers, mixed expat and local clientele, mostly regulars.
Not everybody's cup of tea, but well worth trying.

one place NOT to go is the restaraunt at the end of el conde near the cathedral.

It is a great place to grab a presidente and people watch...but the food is TERRIBLE.

Now...if you happen to do a day trip out to Boca Chica...i discovered a great seafood place that is right next to the Don Emilio Hotel. Many people from santo domingo go there. EXCELLENT. NOt much on ambience (white walls with a little blue trim...kinda loud) but the food was off the hook! Garlic shrimp (and LOTS of shrimp) with rice and tostones was 300 Pesos.

I've not been lucky with food in the capital. I look forward to trying out some of the suggestions here on my next trip.

Yes El Señorial is really good. The owner is Swiss Italian. They have good Italian food and their cheese fondue is very good too. I used to hang out there a lot when I first moved here and I was living in Gazcue.
