Who's Numero Uno in Boca Chica?
I have been in contact with an American who is going to Boca Chica in December for 10 days. He has asked me to find out who is the King (or Queen) of all knowledge down there.
Which bars/meeting places should he visit to get the feel of the area - he has been there once before but was advised to stay in the hotel complex which he didn't enjoy too much, he now wants to get out to meet locals & Ex-Pats that speak English (sorry - American!!). It is OK to respond vis PM or e-Mail if you prefer. Thanks in advance of your co-operation - Grahame.

If He Stays Away from the AI's
(e.g. Hamaca, Don Juan) He will find who to talk to. Suggest Costalunga, maybe Garant, Europa Hotels.
Playa Vista beach bar is manned by UK and Danish ex-pats.
The guy who runs Madhouse has been there for a million years as has the guy who runs Austria bar - German and Austria respectively.
All the above speak English.
Ronnie of Ronnie's Bar fame is still living there and usaully can be found at Playa Vista in the afternoons.
Actually there is a el rey as you are describing in Boca, but, since he values his privacy, introductions are out. And also since most tourists annoy him, since 3/4 of the time they ask for advice then ignore it, then come and ask for help.
I am in Boca 6 or 7 X a year and know most everyone - I have the same experience with first time or irregular tourists - where do I go, what should I do ( and more importantly not do) then they do something else. And get scammed by a tigre etc.

All right, here they are, these are the hangouts in BC, as of today.
Hexenkessel (the German bar / restaurant) - Still a place where you can hang out (even eat a decent meal) without being attacked by escortgirls.
La Cueva - The disco, forget it, it's dead.
Bar Austria – Forget this one also, for the dogs.
Madhouse - Hangout for expat Germans. Bachata and Merengue free. Usually a few people here.
Pequena Suissa – Have been closed a few days, probably pre winter break.
Route 66 – The new hangout for everybody else. Usually live music. Seems to be the place that’s attracting tourists these days.
La Criolla – The Dominican bar / restaurant. Always a few people in there.
Zanzibar – People still watching TV on the big screen. The place to go if it’s a boxing match on TV. Regular girls and regular clients I guess.
Cosmos Disco (used to be called La Noria, also used to be called Alcatraz ages ago) – Quite often filled up from 02:00 AM.
The BC drag is not really a drag anymore, Politur has taken care of that. I have also seen Politur pulling out (arresting) girls from three of the places just mentioned (the bars and discos used to be protected areas, not anymore). Keep it in mind, the girl sitting right in front of you can all of a sudden be pulled away by one of the boys from the sunshine police. Pretty embarrassing if you just fell in love with her (he, he, he).
Buena suerte.

There is a guy people refer to as "The King" named Brandy living at the Costa Lunga. A really nice guy and often at Playa Vista during the day, soaking up the sun.
Rick can be #1. I know him and he knows his stuff.
