Default Interesting article in EL Globo Jan 4th

Written by an Italian ex-pat living close to the new Aquabella site.
There was also a meeting in La Romana with the 'media ambiente' (sp) who have said they will visit JD this Friday to 'investigate' the complaints stated in the newspaper article.

News from from Aquabella developers that they are currently awaiting delivery from Miami of a specially built pump to commence work at the site (should be wither this week or next at the latest).

I have the brochure of the project and it looks fabulous! Hopefully it will be.
Should have the price list later this week if anyone is interested.

Paul,
We also live in the states but own a condo in Club Hemmingway. We're in building 3, top floor. Where are you at? Where do you live in the States? My wife and I live in Austin Texas and we get down to JD a couple of times a year. We were there in January and expect to get back early May.

Drove down the new paved road in Guayacanes yesterday. Not sure when it was paved but it is already being dug up to make 'connections' for water and power!! Go figure!

Also today the policia were out in force in that town as several 'new' constructions were demolished as they were 'abusivo'. (sp)

Speaking of conditions...what has been up with the awful sewage smell throughout Juan Dolio for the past week or more? It's almost as bad as when we've had flooding from the TSs. Anyone know if they decided to open up any existing sewer lines and "forgot" to close them? I'm serious. The sulfur and putrid smell has completely ruined the appetites of all the people I know in the area (maybe we should promote it as a diet-plan?) TIA for any ideas. I'm about to start using the old Victorian era cloth to the nose with camphor or some other essential oil.

You smell this only outside Juan Dolio.
I live already 14 years in Juan Dolio.

Maybe I need to clarify...we live in Juan Dolio and are smelling this nearly every night for 7-10 days. It is definitely a sewer smelling issue and we've driven around from Old JD, Metro and New JD. Some places are worse (right now--Old JD and Metro). I admit that I have a very sensitive nose but even my dh who admits to being olfactorally challenged notices it (along with our neighbors and those living outside of our complex.)

Is it possible that those pipes MommC posted about in Guayacanes are the resason? We've had some pretty stiff wind (or as our 9 yr old would say: someone had a pretty stiff wind--sorry 3 boys in the house and that humor is constantly around.)

I know that they are burning the sugar cane now - hence the air full of black bits - and someone once told me that the bad smell is associated with that.
