I thought the whole fundamental principle of raves, was about doing "Ecstasy".
they do serve Red Bull in the DR. you can get high off of that energy drink like the people do back here in the U.S.
Red Bull and Ecstasy ?

To the original poster:
I like electronic music and have been to many of the events at Caribbean Sun (also in the cave and the old marina location), and never had any trouble. I have never seen a fight, never seen anybody get arrested, nor have I seen anybody O.D.
Just hundreds sometimes thousands of people having a good time. Now I'm sure it has happened, whenever you put large numbers of people together, they will be trouble especially if you mix in alcohol.
Most of the people commenting on this thread have not been there and have no idea.
Go to Musica y cultura electronica en Republica Dominicana for a calendar of events.

Most of us have not gone to visit Baghdad either, but we do know (not think) that it's not a wise move.
Only yesterday, on Dominican TV, the head of the DNCD of the DR, was being interviewed, and he was talking about getting this type of event banned, along with certain rap/reggaeton types of music thsat would be pulled off the air.
So you are correct that most of us have not been there, but we DO have an idea.

Raves aren't what you posters think they are.
Take it from an old hippie.
Raves are musical "jump ups" - like in Jamaica where they jam reggae all night and the kids dance around a bonfire.
Folks, don't get too old and in the way - not to mention self-righteous.
Remember when you used to stay up all night and listen to music and dance and "socialize"?

and drink absurd amounts of booze, while smoking cigar sized joints and doing white ligthning acid?

Just innocent kids having fun.

spot on Rocky, and "all nighters" up and downers, black and whites,
Raves are just a modern day version, but unfortunately more dangerous as so many kids have died from trying different 'stuff' just to stay awake to be part of the 'in' crowd

Some of us even survived, somehow...
I'm not sure the current version is as innocent and harmless as those 35 years ago. Lot more bad mojo, lot more designer durgs...

True, but the odds were not in our favour.
We're freaks of nature.
