video- Old JD
CB: That looks like old Juan Dolio although it COULD be any number of places... the "Old Bambu" umbrella places it across from the "Old Bambu" bar sort of near the Piano Bar/Casablanca.
If your dh is trying to reach me, I'll be at the orphanage all day tomorrow (Wed) and bringing some of our orphanage kids to the capital on Thurs.
For your visit, where you'll find the best conditions for you and your child will depend on how the Caribbean is behaving. Old JD can be flat as a lake at times and with the new sand, its bottom is very nice...same with new JD. There are times when even Playa Caribe is flat--but on weekends it is way too crowded.
One of the nicest, calmest white sand beaches is Bayahibe just past La Romana.
"I found a video,,, please take a look to see if anybody recognizes the spot.

Quality of this not great,
But the first shot is directly in front of Don Pedro's!

You can even buy food there now (pescado con tostones, salad etc.) and it's not bad (but drinks are a little pricey!).
This one is the one we go to (right in front of Casablanca - the old Il Cappucino). Please note it was a bit windy the day this was filmed.

Hope this gives you an idea.....

Windy today
in JD?
My Boyscout just called me to say he went to PE, CM and Aura and he thinks that all 3 places r too rough for her.
Maybe we are asking for the impossible trying to find BC in JD.
MommC,, please take him tomorrow or the day after to where you think we should take her, thanks for the ''accessories" offer!!!!!!
The video I posted had the water really calm and the beach chairs were about couple of meters from the water. I guess it will take a nice walk down the beach to find this places in the old JD
We stayed last Summer at Whyndam in Bayahibe and it was the best, can't drive there for a beach day,,,my dh wants to sneak few rounds of golf in March as well,,,, so Bayahibe is out of question.
Thank U girls,,,, U r the best!!!!!!!!

Very windy today!!!!
When we first got back two weeks ago the sea was as flat as you saw in the first video or moreso. However for the pst few days it's been rougher than I've seen in quite a while.
However by the time you get here in March we should be back in a 'calm' cycle so you should find lots of spots to sit and enjoy.
Even today there is one small area in the lee of the breakwater at Playa Juan Dolio that is gentle enough and the beach at Guayacanes looked pretty good also! We drove by around 10:30 this morning and it was relatively calm and not a soul in sight!

Sounds like you have many friends scouting the area to help you find the perfect spot!! It's so nice to have good people to help out down here.
The only comment I have is about Pescador in Guayacanes. Your comment about it being too far back from the water makes me think we are not considering the same place. The interior/deck portion of the restaurant is maybe 30 feet back from the beach (at the most), but they have many umbrella huts just 8 feet back or so with lounge chairs that basically sit in the water, and these have umbrellas as well. It's worth taking a look anyway. Much luck & I'll PM you about your visit!

Costa del Sol
Hi CB,
Sometimes at Costa del Sol we have calm waters and sometimes it's pretty choppy it all depends on the winds but your invited to spend time at our premises whether it's the beach or the pool, no charge.
When you get here just ask for me.
See ya

And thanks again!!!!
Hi guys,,,, sorry for the late reply.. I have been away all day,,, my DH is having the fun in the sun, and left me here dealing with the snow and this week's payroll.....moving on.....
DanaP....Maybe I don't have the same place in mind...... is it near Walter's place (Deli Swiss)? That is the place I think it is right by the corner at the beginning of Guayacanes,,, they have a long walk to the restaurant and some run down rooms.... the last time we were there they told us that the new owner (female) was getting everything re-built.
Please, let get together when I come down!!!!
Frank,,, please PM ur phone,,,, let's see if I can get my dh to see u tomorrow or the day after,,, he wanted to talk to you about the new golf course and just ask me few hours ago to send him the info I got from Steve and you. He is in JD right now and will be back tomorrow morning,,, but I don't know his
T-time or if he is playing Metro with PapaC or Guavaberry.
I like Las Olas we were there last year for the JM golf tournament and it is very peaceful,,,, but I am afraid of the depth of the waters, after the sand renovation,,,, thanks for the offer,,,we will check it in March.
Thanks

CB--your DH and I connected today and NPH thanks you for your kindness and thoughtful donations. I must admit that you probably had a laugh over sending winter coats from Canada to the DR, but there will be little girls who will fight over the gorgeous puffy jackets. Even today with it in the 80s--but low humidity--they were wearing 3 + layers!
I was out at NPH most of the day and will bring your delivery on Friday. 'Look forward to introducing you to the kids!
As for the beaches--like I said: it all depends on how choppy and which direction the swells are coming in. There are some places that are almost always like lakes (Bayahibe and parts of Boca Chica), but for the most part my family complains about the lack of waves in Juan Dolio!
