Problem is this country is great on talk when there is a monetary gain to be made however very short on action when it comes to actually doing what the talk proposed if there is a monetary outlay!

Bingo!

The eastern part of the island is the least earthquake prone area. Ever wonder why the east is so flat, relative to the rest of the island?

Perhaps its part of the building code nationwide.

I know that everywhere in the US new constructions have to be earthquake safe, even in Florida. At least all the bridges are being constructed with earthquakes in mind.

What are the chances of an earthquake shaking Florida?

Has Florida ever had an earthquake?

Speaking of Florida, do you know that much Florida's land is of the same type that makes the flat lands that forms much of the eastern DR?

In the 14 years I live here near the beach. There were some robberies on the beach, but not very much.

I am sure that the buildings are hurricane proof also but I would not want to be on the top floor of a high rise on the beach. I lived on the fourth floor in JD during some heavy storms and the wind was scary.
I wouldn't worry to much about the overload on the sub-standard sewer and water systems because the people buying are not going to be in the condos very much. They are mostly investment buyers. I don't think they will get rented very much either. They will be empty most of the time. In reality there will be less people on the streets of JD than when the resorts were all filled with tourists.
Have they turned on the street lights on Villas Del Mar yet? Have they filled in that four foot deep hole in the street in front of Plaza Real yet? There was nothing around it to protect anyone walking from falling in it or any danger warning either. It was dug to install water or sewer about seven years ago and was left wide open for a number of years after that. They never did hook up water or sewer there.
Good Luck to all of you still in JD whichever side of the fence you're on.
