Thanks MommC--Let's see if this makes it onto the board. Dh=Dear Hubby or Dear Husband. Not Dominican...either one of us, that is. All five of us are US citizens with legal residency in the DR, contributing to the local economy. Has anyone ever done a study on how much the average ex-pat contributes economically to the local economy (I mean when a company brings in a worker and their family comes, usually it requires a house, sometimes a housekeeper--in some cases a nanny, private schools, tutors, food, cars, etc.) I'm just curious if this has been looked at.
It looks like we have a DIFFERENT strain of Dengue from the one that was mostly circulating last year. What that means for all of you is USE YOUR DEET! Even if you've had Dengue Fever before, you can get it again and there is no vaccine. The only thing to do is prevent it (ideally through mosquito abatement) and if you get it to minimize the impact by preventing dehydration (I had a thread on Oral Rehydration Therapy--search or I'll repost it.) The fevers have been quite high and our youngest was actually dilerious.
