Default Downfall of Boca Chica

I just got back from a two week trip to the DR. I went back with my wife and two girls ages 11 and 8. My wifes mother and father gave us a house in Boca Chica about 6 or 7 years ago. We put some money into it and cleaned it up. We built a small home on the property and have a guy and his family watch the main house. This way no one steals plumbing or anything from the main house. I've got to say that I am very disappointed with the area. The amount of drug usage in the area has increased dramatically. I saw for the first time in the DR some one smoking crack right in the street. I was disgusted. I was approached by girls probably as young as 12 or 13 years old for the purposes of prostitution. The beach is dirty. The venders are annoying. I saw people fighting on the beach and apparently high on drugs. My 11 year old daughter was bothered by some a$$hole on the beach. He was making advances toward her. I am glad for his sake and mine that I did not find him after she told me about him. My daughter did not feel comfortable in going back to the beach. We ended going to Juan Dolio most of the time. I have to say that I love Juan Dolio. The beach is clean. No venders bother you and no low lifes hanging out. My daughters feel alot safer in Juan Dolio. We looked at some condos in the area and are considering buying in the area. I think the area has alot of potential. We also took a trip to Samana and loved the area. That may be an area that we need to look at. Everyone in the family loved Samana. I want to go back in February for the whales.

I stopped going to Boca Chica several years ago for the same reasons you explained and also love Juan Dolio, but if you spend time up on the north coast I think you will find it a much better place to bring the family especially the beaches on the north coast. Next time use my house in Puerto Plata if no one is there and go out and explore the north coast.

Agree 100% with you. The Juan Dolio area has a lot of potential . And the Juan Dolio beach will continue being like this if everyone continue follow the basic rules made by Secretary Of Tourism : '' Prohibited: 1) Littering. 2) Use of glass bottles and glasses. 3) Cooking and eating. 4) Motor vehicles and bicycles. 5) Music at high volume. 6) Vendors. 7) Animals. 8) All kinds of weapons. 9) Tents and umbrellas . 10) Sleeping on the beach after 8 pm. ''

The Tijuana like sleaze isn't the nastiest part of Boca Chica, but the fact you are swimming in very disgusting, polluted water with ecoli counts that are high by any international standard. The water there makes the East River look like Lake Geneva....

Default Vendors

I have had the same experience while in Boca Chica with the vendors and each trip they seem to be more aggressive and numerous. This year I was there is September, just after all the tropical systems, so there weren't many tourist. They literally formed a line beside us to offer their merchandise, play music, or offer their services. The vendors were like mosquitos, but at least there weren't so many beggars and disfigured people asking for money while showing you their wounds like in El Conde.

disfigured people ?

it's really sad. i have seen a chica with one leg dressed to kill out every night on Duarte looking for customers. i've also seen a guy with no legs out there beggin on the beach. i remember a guy about 55 while i was at the El Candil was going down to the park every night to pick up underage girls. i wanted to kick his a** !! especially since he had brought his young son (about 7) with him to BC.
i use to love BC also but now it has turned into a haven for low lifes. but i must say it's a lot better when you have dominican friends there. noone seems to bother you when they see you with other dominicans.....

juan dolio has to be monitored and watched to prevent the same thing that has occurred in boca chica you have to be vigilant and even petty with the rules to set the climate on the beach and the entire area ,,guys like steveg and frank appear to be on top of this this area is fast becoming the destination to be seen at in the dominican republic heard several middle class dominicans talking about juan dolio and the beautiful beach in toronto canada
