Default Small hotels in La Romana

I am looking to go to La Romana in the next few weeks but cannot afford the expensive resorts. I just want a place that is safe, clean, and has AC. Let me know if any of you can help. Thanks.

I can't recommend for La Romana city, but since the resorts aren't actually in La Romana and you reference them, I'll refer you to two small hotels in the area of the resorts. My preferred is Villa Iguana in Bayahibe, but Hotel Bayahibe is clean and safe and a more traditional accommodation. My 10 day stay last year at Villa Iguana is recorded at Villa Iguana and Bayahibe, Dominican Republic January, 2008 pictures, photos, and videos, from caribbean on webshots

We've stayed at Hotel Bayahibe and it is fine for the price. I think it was RD$1,600 for single occupancy with breakfast.

There are a bunch of nice, usually family-owned little hotels in the city proper.
I do not have their names right now, but if you give me a few hours, I'll try and find out.

I just knew I should have written them down...they are not that hard to find. One is near the sports complex, and three others are on the streets that parallel the one that goes past the police station across from the sugar mill....the first light past Jumbo Supermarket.

Sorry I can't be more specific...

There is the hotel "Olimpico" in the main road where you arrive coming from Santo Domingo. It´s next to a big gas station.

A few meters before getting to the "Olimpico" there is another small hotel.

Also there is the "Riverview" in the street going up from the bus stop to Bayahibe (on the other side of the street).

Both are reasonably priced hotels that offer a good standard (clean, a/c, cabel tv, and so on).
