Default Price for Octopus

There is a guy who sales octopus on the beach in BC. He gives me what I thougt was a sample but keep heaping it on. I have a cup and half and it was tasty and I decided to pay him. I asked how much. He replied " 3000 pesos. I too replied in crisp Spanish ' Do you think I'm an idiot? He then said 2000 peso. I gave him 500, which I think was way too much, and he went a way shouting. What should I have paid?

the MOST you should have paid is about 200-300 pesos on the beach. BUt you are right..there was one time a guy tried to sell me pulpo...he showed me a price menu but started loading up my plate with lambi and other stuff.

The word to the wise is ask BEFORE hand!!!! You never pay for a THING on the playa before negotiation. I hope you are not paying for a chair fee!!!

He put some lime and sauce on it. I've had it many styles and if done right isn't like rubber. Thanks! Fudd

They do this all the time to unsuspecting tourists!!! They tried this on me when I first had this.

You have to let them know before hand that you just want 200 pesos worth. The vendors from boca chica already know me. For 200 pesos, I get a whole plate loaded with lambi, pulpo and clams with a couple of shots of mamajuana.

The best. I love this stuff and so does whatever female friend I am with since it is like liquid viagra (the combo of this freash seafood and mamajuana)

3000 pesos is highway crime.

I just looked up mamajuana. Sounds sweet tasting. I can't recall hearing of in when I've visited the DR. I will give it a try next time and I'm with a chica and 200 pesos of seafood!
