Thumbs down Only in the Dominican Republic!

They opened a new childrens playground in Consuelo this past week. The towns "syndicate" used government money to build it. Now they want to charge 50 pesos for each child to use the park for 1 week. So each week the parents have to pay for their children to use the playground. Needless to say no one is using the park and death threats abound for the syndicate members.

You know, I can understand the reasoning behind this: If they have to pay to play they will take better care of it...

I remember a looooong time ago when out village swimming pool required a "proof of residency" to enjoy the pool...plus 20 dollars a summer. It was the best $20 we ever spent...

Perhaps $50 RD is a bit much, but I think I can agree with their thinking...
