Default Hotel El Candil

Does anyone have a RECENT first-hand experience with Candil in BC? Is it still "the best" choice there? How safe to leave the car (rental) there? What's the situation with bugs/mosquitoes?
Thanks in advance.

Hola,

The administration changed hands a couple of years ago...but its still a great place. The prices have been raised slightly...but if you have been there before just ask and you can get a better rate.

The staff is wonderfull and helpful. Excellent security and very good maid service. I dont recommend eating there except for breakfast. Oh the food is fine...but you can get better for a lot cheaper in town.

You car will be fine. They have an overnight security guard...who is cool and friendly and reliable.

Are there cheaper places in B.C.? Yes. But El Candil is like home to me.

Oh...and ask about their free airport service if you are there for 4 days or more.

I really like the public area by the pool. I've met some very cool independant travelers by hanging at the pool in the evening.

The only thing I recommend is to haggle on the rate. It depends when you are traveling. They are one of the first hotels to sell out tho.

EnjoY!!!!!!

thats a fine rate. I usually get around 45...but for real...it isnt worth the haggle for five bucks a night. And as kyle pointed out..you get the free airport pickup. (just make sure to ask for it!!!!).

There are other hotels that are good too.
Magical Tropical has a really nice pool - large enough to actually swim in. Mango has a nice vibe to it also. The internet is pretty consistently fast at Mango.

The Magical Tropical and the Mango are one street up and one street across from El Candil.
They are close by and any taxi / moto concho will show you.

el candil is an excellent choice.when i have friends and family visit i send them to candil.if it's your first time down i would go with them and when your there you can look around and get prices of other hotels for your next trip down.
like they said security will be there for your vehicle and as of bugs i havent had any encounters as of yet in any of the hotels in boca chica.
have an safe and excellent stay my friend!
