Was a little occupied yesterday so therefore I couldn't do any "investigating" and haven't seen the gentleman either. By the way it supposedly happened in the Europa building.

Default Update

While finishing my morning run I "ran" into the gentleman and I asked him how he was doing and this is what I heard from the horses mouth.
At approx. 3am 5 guys forced their way into his apartment. He and his lady friend where held at gunpoint and with a knife on the throat. They stayed for about 2 hrs taking turns raping the girl. They left with valuables and apparently they also tried to get into another but were scared off by a neighbor who shot at them. The police was informed and came but didn't even take fingerprints because they were not equipped!!!
Spoke maybe 2 minutes with the man because he was still very disturbed and I didn't want put him too much through the ordeal again.
Will be continued.

Default It's outrageous!!!

Spoke the gentleman again this morning and was informed that for about a $1000,- in money and goods was stolen. His lady friend had been living with him already for several months so I don't think that this was an inside job. Besides she was not only raped by 5 guys but also sodomized and was bleeding from all parts of her body!!!!
Watched CNN this morning and they were talking about a woman gang banged by 4 guys, this is news on CNN!!!
Here in the DR the cops don't even make a report even though they went twice to the scene of the crime.
Matilda you said that the cops don't know anything, doesn't that sound strange to you? I'm pretty sure you know the gentleman because he's been in JD for awhile now, pm me for info.

It almost seems as though the insiders might very well be the police.

I hope they aren't involved or were aware of any of this.
This is verging, infact no not verging, it is in the same arena as the kind of things a certain Robert Mugabe allows to go on, and infact supports within his posse of thoughtless thugs. We really don't wanna go there, do we!!
Alas Pig, and I am not a conspiracy theory type of guy, but I believe the police may be involved in many armed break-ins and worse! Dominican friends have told me that the type of weapons used and, believe it or not, footwear give them away!

Assume for a moment that the police are involved in this type of activity. Do you actually believe they would be caught, arrested, tried, and convicted? By whom?

OK I already said that I am not a conspiracy theorist! I do not believe that ALL the police here are corrupt or that they are all involved in criminal activity, not by any stretch of the imagination. I believe, and call me naive if you like, but I think the majority are mostly honest. I think if they did catch police officers for armed robbery that they would press charges but the problem is that there is no CSI going on here at all. I have been at the scene, after the event, of 2 armed attacks and no fingure printing is done, nobody looks for bullets or cartridges. The only way anyone gets caught is when they try and offload stolen goods and then they deny all knowledge of the crime and maybe spen a couple of night in the local jail!

I have seen police storm straight into the firing line so they can't all be in on the act!

Pig, as they used to say on crimewatch UK, these things are relatively rare, so don't have nighmares!

I guess each individual will have to determine for themselves the level of corrupt within the various police agencies.

Since there is no hard data to consult, it remains a matter of personal opinion. I also think it depends a great deal on the what area of the country one is referring to, and who the commanders are at any particular point in time.

That being said, it is my personal opinion that the problems with corruption within the government, and the police specifically, has reached, and far surpassed, the tipping point in the DR. It is simply too all-encompassing to be dismissed as a few bad apples.

I think you will find corruption from top to bottom, and there is little chance things will improve any time soon. And yes, I believe this type of crime could very well been committed by the police.
