Shortly outside of Barahona, there are lots of nice hotels for which you can just show up (unless you go on a long weekend). Among these are Pontevedra (809 341-8462), CoralSol (809 524-4077), Hotel El Quemaito (809 223-0999). On a more costly side, there is Casa Bonita and the Barcelo Bahoruco Beach Resort .

Hotel Costa Larimar

I would rate this the best in Barahona. Right on the ocean. A tip: You don't need to take the AI package. You can just rent a room and use all the facilities for much less. If you choose to eat there you just pay.

There are better places to eat in Barahona for a better price.

Wow ... this is a trip down memory lane! I got an email from santodomingohot today. I'm not aware of any websites for these hotels, as the ones I listed are mostly "pensions" or "bed & breakfast" type places. My house is in LaHoya, just to the east of Barahona. Let me do a little research and get back with you. I have stayed in several of the upper end hotels that Delores mentions. Costa Larimar is by far the nicest IN Barahona. Hotel Barahona has a good rep, and good price, but no pool and not right on the water. Pontevedra, CoralSol and Casa Bonita are good choices down the coast to the west just a bit, and these are the places I've taken groups to stay at. Nice to see everyone here again! Sarah Kafe Kiskeya

Of all the Hotels on the list I have stayed at Pontevedra, Las Magnolias and the Caribe. All good and would stay at anyone of them again. However Pontevedra is more out in the country...

Stayed in Pontevedra in March , reasonable rates . Has a pool , beach is very rocky with a rough surf . All in all not bad for the price .
