No that word is no pastry! LOL. Today it is used in several Spanish-speaking countries as: an expression of surprise, admiration, anger, etc. etc. It is also the spanish word for "vulva" or female genitalia. IT came from Latin and has the same roots as the English word "c..t", and same meaning. In Spain,it is the word for "it".

Well I am glad you told "Capo" what it means. I sent him a private email explaining to him exactly what you wrote. I just did not want to post it here on the board but I had to contain myself (laughter that is) when I read what he wrote- "pastry". I think we may have saved this guy's face somehow down road. I hope now Capodominicano will use the expression with much more caution.

I sent you a private email explaining to you the meaning of "cono" other than what you already know. And believe me whoever told you "pastry" was pulling your leg-big time!

Coño is obviously the spanish F-word, I prepared a speech for a class on the origins of curse words and the F-word is quite intriguing, also it is not a acronym, but back to my case, I have been researching spanish (Dominican) curse words yet most words I am researching are unexplainable. Also in many other latin countries words are interchangeable (ie Argentina) tell somebody in Argentina "Yo quiero coher la gua-gua para ir downtown". Translation= I want to have sex with a lizard downtown. Coher=sex, gua-gua=lizard. They don't speak spanglish in Argentina. I've heard coño is a pastery but im not sure that is true and since language is interchangeable... or of course I could just been told a bold face lie by a peruvian.

I just had to prevent Capo from walking into a bakery/pastry shop and asking for a "coño"! LOL!

No, I would never say that, I am not an idiot, I just wanted to confirm my original belief, that it only has one universal meaning. Most humans get so easily offended it was surprising to learn how many do not know the origin of curse words. For example Berdugo, some people Dominicans tell me it's cool to refer to someone by that phrase yet others get offended, that's was my other reason for asking what does berdugo mean, another word is chopo, it is a word use to describe a servant but some use it to degrade people. Don't assume, it was just a simple question.

It's not berdugo but verdugo and it translates literally as "executioner". Not a nice to say to anyone in another language but in Dominican slang it translates as "tough guy" or a guy who has chutzpah.

Sieso is the exact same word as coño and as the latter it also refers to the female genitalia but can be used as an expletive too. Same goes for pipo, but this is a north/Cibao word. Other exact synonyms are cebolla, semilla and I am sure plenty others I don't know or don't remember.
Waitaminute! What's up with Dominicans and their using words meaning "female genitalia" for swearing?!
Canillita is a kid that sells newspapers in street corners. It is also the diminutive of canilla, 'skinny leg' in Dominican slang (as in ¡que canillas tiene esa tipa!).
Estar en la papa means 'to be prosperous'.
Paletero is a street vendor that sells cigarretes, candies and chewing gum from a box that resembles a large suitcase.
Please don't tell my mom I told you this.

Ta'To, it's all good, but some DR1 members like to fuss & argue. Some of my homeboys designed customs T-shirts spelling Berdugo with a B, I guess thats the difference in Dominican slang, change a letter and the word becomes good, just like black (African-Americans). (ie Ni**er=Ni**a). Thinking about it would be funny if you enter a bakery and ask a fine young lady for some cono. Opps me pase de la linea, lol.

It is deep and old, the cause is lingering shame

False pride and arrogance mask the deep shame that underpins the prejudice based in self hatred.
