LDG.
I just want to add that we ( dominicans) use both words, una cuadra o una manzana, some use "esquinas" as well to indicate a block. Hope to help

PS: you can count on me for "El rincón español"

Is there anyway to type the accent marks from a standard english keyboard? I would like to be able to type "el rincón español" since "el rincon espanol" has no meaning.

I have a paper with all that.

Espera que lo busco

#1 make sure the "numbers lock" is on
#2 hold down the "alt" key

á = alt 160
é = 130
í = 161
ó = 162
ú = 163
ñ = 164
Ñ = 165
¿ = 168
¡ = 173
ü = 129

Doesn't work on laptops because you need the numbers pad on the right.
You will see the letter with accent once you release the alt key

Question, what would you need this " ü " in?

Rellosk,

You can just memorize the codes of letters that have an accent and punctuation:

ñ= alt 164
ó= alt 162
é= alt 130
í= alt 161
ú= alt 163
á= alt 160
¿= alt 168
¡= alt 173

Default Alt 129= ü

Anna,

That accent is for verbs that end in "guar" in certain tenses.

Words like "averiguar"

Example = "averigüe"

There are quite a few.... I have to go now. Later.

Actually, Anna, you can do this on most laptops -- I oughta know, because I live/work on laptops and have to constantly write in Spanish and Portuguese. Most laptops have a keypad function utilizing numbers indicated in a special color -- blue on my current HP, grey on my last Toshiba -- on letter and number keys, zero on the M, 1 on the J, 2 on the K, so forth (note: 7,8 & 9 are superimposed on the actual number keys). You hold down both the ALT and "Fn" key (usually on lower lefthand side, next to ALT) and then punch in the number codes on the indicated keys. For example, "í" is ALT+Fn punch M,K,L,7.

BTW, for anyone interested in the codes for letters used in Portuguese but not Spanish, they are:

ê = 0234
ô = 0244
õ = 0245
à = 0224
ã = 0227
ç = 0231

Anna, I might be interested in participating. Not sure how often, but at least from time to time. Could be fun.

I think it is a fine idea. Question though: Do you novatos want to be corrected when you make mistakes? I think that would be a great help. But I don't want to offend anybody.
