Question I'm lost on this one?

Hi,

One of my Dominican friends frequently uses a word (spelled out in english - the "j" sounds like a "j" not an "h") that sounds like "japenny" I have no idea how that would be spelled in Spanish if it is even a real word. I have asked a few other Domincans and other Spanish speaking people and no one can seem to tell me what it means. Someone suggested "whats happenning?" but in the contexts he uses the word that makes no sense.

In an email once he spelt it "japeni." This word throws me for a loop every time I hear it.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd agree with "happening" off the cuff.
A sentence in context would be helpful to gleen the actual meaning.

the "j" sounds like a "j" not an "h"

"ya" is what the first "ja" is getting at.

Ya means "already" or "yet" - could be ...

Ya veni (I already came.)

A very serious senior librarian wants to know:

Hmn.............was that in bed or out of bed (context).
