Default What about this word?

When I was a child, I remember hearing my grandfather saying "anda la porra". This expression is equivalent to saying "really?" or "oh my god" or in any form to express that something did not went as expected.

My question is this, does anyone knows where this word ("porra" or "la porra") comes from? What about the history behind this word?

"anda a la porra" is a variation of the saying "vete a la porra". La "porra" was the traditional long baton used in military parades and was kept upright outside military stockades. Soldiers were punished by having them stand by the "porra". So the expression "go to the porra".
