Default I would like that we be friends.

How does one say that in Spanish? I want to say me gustaría que seamos amigos. But according to the sequence of tenses the conditional is followed by the imperfect subjunctive so that would make it, me gustaría que fuéramos amigos. Which is correct?

Please correct me if I'm wrong

quiero ser tu amigo... which is actually, I want to be your friend

unless what you are trying to say is, you don't want a relationship and you just want to be "friends"

yes/no?

Sounds to me like it should be correct...

Also AnnaC is right...but only if you wanted to make a statement (I want to be your friend) and not merely a 'suggestion' as

Me gustaría que fuéramos amigos" is definitely the correct way to say what xamaicano was asking to translate.

Something like that. I am going for the difference MusicQueen suggested.

Default Xamaicano-

Which one is correct?

A) me gustaría que seamos amigos= Wrong

B) me gustaría que fuéramos amigos= Right

Musicqueen and Juancarlos already gave the correct response but I just wanted to add that you will hear 'me gustaría que seamos amigos' which is completely incorrect. Besides usage in the day to day speech of many, I have come across this usage in Spanish literature by good authors too. It's completely a grammatical faux pas always best to be avoided.
