I came across this word "desarenador" while reading an article about a project INAPA was doing. Deconstructing the word, I guess it means to filter or remove sand and sediment? Could someone confirm or correct. Thanks.

That's what I would think.
May be an invented word, but sand remover sounds right.

Sand remover as Rocky confirmed above...I've never met anyone whose job is to be a Desarenador...

Yes, it's correct... A desarenador is used to filter sand and rock into pipelines in hydroelectric plants or oil platforms. I mean a sand separator.
