My mother tossed me into a French school at the age of 6.
In one month I spoke almost as much as the other kids.
Kids that age are like sponges.
He'll be speaking better Spanish than you in no time.

If your son likes sports I would recommend trying to find a club or league that he could join in or even just a place that he could join in the "pick up games" or activities like kiteboarding.

My son learned quite a bit of French just while playing with the French students on his soccer team last year.

It might also help him make friends since he and the other children would for sure have at least one activity or interest in common.

At ten he will learn really quick!
Let him watch cartoons in Spanish, and let him play with the neighborhood kids.

Unquestionably true.
They learn so quickly at that age, that it makes us (old farts) look like complete dummies.

Thumbs up

My French/German teacher, in highschool, took a year off to travel Europe when her kids were between 6 and 8. They spent about 6 months in France and another 6 or so in Germany. The kids were enrolled in school in both countries and by the time they returned to Canada were basically fluent in both languages.

When I last spoke with her she commented that they are still able to communicate well in both, even though it was well over 30 years since their return.

I lived ther in 2002 with 1 of my daughters being school aged, other too young. We lived in an area where the only options were spanish speaking schools. She was a 2nd grader and was totally immersed as she did not know a word of spanish when she started. Within 1 month was speaking enough to get moved up to 3rd grade. Finished school year and is almost fluent. She actually would always get 100's on her spelling test and can read write spanish as well. Even the spanish schools would attempt to teach some english and it was comical on the days they would do that. She would come home and show me how proud she was with the english words, She would say them with such a strong accent it was funny. I would say put him in now and he'll be talking spanish very quickly.
