Default Good Books to read

I have not been reading in Spanish for the longest and I miss my reading . I love to read and I would apreciate some sugestions about good books of spanish authors. What's hot in DR? Who is a good author? I prefer true events. I'm not much of a fiction reading. Thanks

I hope you get some good responses, because I generally like non fiction too. Maybe whoever posts some examples could summarize the "perception" of the author. Being an American I sometimes get tired of reading articles, etc. that have such a slanted anti western opinion. An example are some of the politically themed articles where the author just assumes every political system is just as corrupt as their own country.

the bookstore is actually called Cuesta. It is sort of a DR barnes and noble setup. +

I recommend you buy the new novel, Candela, published by the prestigious LatAm house, Alfaguaro. FOrgot the author's name, but he is a young Dominican making a name for himself.

¡El diache! - ¡El diantre!

Both sayings are used in the DR.
