Default Argentina, protector of the Spanish language

In an effort to strengthen the Ibero-American identity, consolidate the culture of Mercosur, prevent young people from abandoning the good use of the language, etc., from now on, Argentina will be using, in its internet pages, the various multilingual characters belonging to Spanish and Portuguese. Government pages will no longer be “gov.ar” (English) but “gob.ar” (Spanish). The Argentinean government has ordered to incorporate accent marks, letter ñ, the dieresis, and the cedilla. According to the article, of the 16+ millions of internet users in Argentina, half of them are under the age of 24.
IMO, this is a move in the right direction, one that all governments should take.
Please read the entire article on Castellano - La Página del Idioma Español = El Castellano - Etimología - Lengua española (I do encourage you to bookmark this very informative page.

Norma

It's kinda funny, actually. For years Mexico, Peru and Central America pushed using .gob instead of .gov, while Argentina championed and insisted on .gov Now they're changing their minds and claiming to be the last great hope of the Spanish language on the internet!

LOL internet is the way of the future! I hope it works, one would think that education and language would be pressured more in schools....in a way the internet kind of desensitizes language....even i catch myself making grammatical and or stupid errors...no disrespect or offense to anyone.
I love spanish and stand by protecting it!

What I hate is spending time writing an email in proper Spanish or Portuguese, complete with all the special characters, only to have the recipient's email service translate all of the special characters into ASCII or other code and render it almost unreadable. Doesn't happen these days as much as it used to, thank god.

i hear you, some things do need to be changed still in terms of the special characters and or letters, but for the most part hopefully that transition will be made easily. i remember having to program my characters in MSWORD for my spanish papers. accents over all the vowels etc....in order to write things 'proper'. it is annoying when the characters are translated to ASCII and other weird code....you figure this would be worked out by now? LOL

Presidencia de la República

The DR government site uses 'gob', and if you type 'gov' it redirects.

No offence intended here, but Argentinian is probably my least favourite Spanish accent. (Thank you vBulletin for accepting 'Argentinian' as a correct spelling, unlike Word that insists on the preposterous 'Argentinean'.)

I've sometimes wondered if the Chileans have the right idea: they use neither .gov nor .gob If you want to go to the Chilean President's page, it's simply Gobierno de Chile or the Economy Ministry www.economia.cl

I agree, it reminds me of Italians I know speaking Spanish - speaking of which, sometimes my accent sounds like that too - but I'm trying to change.
