Question Best route from Santiago to Samana

Folks,
Any suggestions on which is a better route from Santiago to Samana:

- thru San Francisco de Marcoris or
- along the North Coast thru Rio San Juan

Thanks.

Thru San Francisco de Macoris will be faster, especially for someone that doesn't know the area.

Default I love to drive the coast line

Personally, I prefer to drive the fastest way to Samana. In your case that would be going down to San Francisco and from there heading to Nagua-Samana.
On the other hand, if you have time, the drive thru the cuast is much longer but, in my humble opinion, much nicer. Once you get to Puerto Plata, turn east and follow the coast. Its really nice!

Problem with coast route is that you only get 1.5-2 hours of coast. Either route will take you to Nagua and the only road possible from there. But taking the coast route means it will take you much longer to get there.

I recommend going the fast way through SF de Macoris, then enjoying the beauty of the Samana Peninsula.
