Default San Francisco de Macoris to Puerto Plata
How long of a trip? Direct buses or guaguas available?

If I have to stay in SFM, any recommended hotels to stay in? I have heard mixed reviews for Hotel 2000.

There are guaguas that would take you to Santo Domingo in approx. 1 hour.

You could take a guagua or publico from SFM to Nagua. During the day there are several buses and guaguas that pass through Nagua returning to Puerto Plata from Santiago. Otherwise, plan on guagua/publico hopping from Nagua to Puerto Plata because other than buses mentioned above no vehicle goes all that way.

Hotel Las Caobas is the best bet for a hotel. It is comfortable, reasonably priced, and most of the staff speaks some English. At this time of year, those who play in the Dominican winter baseball league hang out in the hotel - you might meet a future Vladimir Guerrero!
