I took the Caribe tours bus last night, leaving at 6pm promptly from Santo Domingo to Sosua. The price from Santo Domingo to Sosua Abajo was RD 250. The bus was very nice- better than any Greyhound bus I have taken in the states, and actually nicer than the "luxury" bus I often take from Chicago to Indiana.. The seats were very very comfortable (covered in thin plastic). The was a place to put your small bag in a luggage rack overhead, and I had 4 things that I put in the hold below- an office chair, a rather large suitcase and some other things I purchased in Santo Domingo. All made it to Sosua without any issue.
At no time did I feel unsafe. I did feel a bit uncomfortable on the bus, so I will give you these suggestions- take a sweater, maybe even a jacket, they keep the bus A/C at FROZEN, and take some earplugs, because they BLAST the merengue or whatever music is the selection of the day. Aside from those two issues, I had a great ride and will be taking Caribe Tours to SDQ sometime again in the future (with an extra sweater and some noise cancelling headphones......
