I am coming to Cofresi near the end of Jan. and see there are people you can get to take you around? Any RELIABLE and TRUSTWORTHY that is recommended.Ones that that won't try to rip you off!!

We have been dealing with Delio for years. Reliable and trustworthy guy. He picks us up at the airport even if it is 3am and we have hired him to go to Samana and other places.

You may be able to rent a driver at a cheapear rate than paying for a car rental. While in Santo Domingo a while back I was told that a cabdriver would be at my beck and call for aweek for $225 US. This was a lot cheaper then paying for a rental and dealing with driving while drunk.

On the North Coast there is Wilson, who I am sure is still in business, and you were recommended Delio...so try one of them....Another option is

They are based in Santiago, but they do tons of airport pickups and deliveries as well as people moving around the entire country....and reports on thir service have been outstanding...

So you have at least three options...(Yeah, I didn't give you /wilson's number--I don't have it, but if you do a search on Wilson and taxi you will doubtless come up with it..)

If you come across a short dark haired Russian who speaks 5 or 6 languages from Sosua - then be very careful. He hangs around the car rental places and will drive for you and organise a rental car etc.

However on separtae occasions he assisted 2 of my friends. Starting out as their driver and then he did everything that he could to find out all of their business and to assist them to get into business and real estate in the DR.

Then surprisingly enough lawyers associated with him did all that they could to remove them of all of their newly acquired assets.

Big Andrea who imported some cars and who attempted to set up a real estate office was another victim who started in the DR with this guy as a "driver".

He lost everything to the "driver" including 4 cars that he imported with the assistance of the "driver" and his lawyers. Guess who ended up with the cars?

Sometimes it pays to drive yourself or alternativley use one of the excellent recomendations from the previous posts.
