Santo Domingo to Punta Cana Airport?

We made a mistake with our air ticket purchase and we can't get a change so the problem we're facing is that we're arriving at Santa Domingo airport and need to be arriving at Punta Cana airport. My solution is to rent a car then drive to Punta Cana airport and turn the car in since we don't need it for the week, then take a cab to the resort (Ocean Manor)

I'm wondering how to get to Punta Cana from SD airport and would appreciate any help you can give as well as tips on driving in the DR!

So for other posters not to waiste time, the OP made a mistake, he is actually going to Cabarete, arriving at SDQ.

The instructions to him were already given on the other thread.
