Thanks, D.

However, I still know that a car can do that road, slowly in the more difficult spots. There were several today (Thursday), and YES, there was MUD towards the eastermost section..a most noteworthy sign that one is getting near...

Hey HB, good to see you made it - I was afraid you'd fall asleep at the wheel!

Important other detail, the bridge going from La Otra Banda to Punta Cana has been fixed and traffic has resumed on this road. Thank god since it got so bad at one point that traffic was being rerouted to Uvero Alto!

One small modification to what I said about landmarks.
The first West to East crossing of the railroad tracks comes just before EC 414, NOT EC-449....my bad...As long as it is on your left after crossing over, no problem.

And, if you should take my counsel and go that way with your car, do go slow and to the side of any of the mud puddles. And by slow, I mean slow.

Also note that I heard that the bridge has been repaired, so if you are not in a hurry to get there , take the normal route ...

Took this road last weekend to Punta Cana. Thanks for the great instructions. Otra Banda is usually a nightmare and mess to try and get through, not to mention Higuey. The first few moments, I was white knuckling it, because you instantly feel likely you are in the middle of the Austrailan outback. Most of the time, I was the only car on the entire road. Pretty cool feeling. On some stretches of the drive, you can easily drive 45-50 MPH. Other parts, you have to slow way, way down. The basic rule is to just keep following the tracks and hang a left into the little Batuey at the end of the tracks. With this short cut, highly probable I will never step foot in Higuey again!
