Urgent info - PC to SD
I have done some research on various websites but have not gotten an answer. Hope someone can help me here. I am flying to Punta Cana on Saturday and would like to go to Santo Domingo as soon as landed. I will be arriving Punta Cana at noon. Is this the easiest way (beside taxi direct to SD) to get to SD? Take a taxi from the airport to the town Higuey, and then bus to SD? Can someone please confirm it, where should I get off in Higuey for the bus to SD. How long and how much is the taxi cost to Higuey?
If anyone arrive PC on Dec 15 and would like to go to SD by Taxi direct, please let me know as we can share a taxi.
Thanking in advance

The b!tch of this is that the taxi drivers will caharge you a bundle just to take you over to the bus station. But the upside is that there is a bus leaving at 3 pm for Santo Domingo. Send a PM to "rubio_higuey" and he will give you all the info you need. You can call Benjamin so that he is waiting for you at the airport. Good guy and reliable.
Phone is 809 351 8407, tell him that Jorge from Higuey sent you...and Luis from Santiago..

There is a 3pm Sitrabapu/Sichoprola bus that leaves from the so called Estacion Punta Cana that is near the Punta Cana International Airport. Ask the luggage carriers at the airport for which way to walk to get to that stop. You need to take it outside the airport. The fare, the last time I checked was RD$270, so less than US$10 for the 4 hour trip to Santo Domingo, a great deal. Once you get into Santo Domingo, take a RD$150 taxi to your final destination.

Thanks for the info folks! Sorry about my ignorance as I am more confused now. Many people here mentioned go to the bus station in either Bavaro or Higuey for a bus to SD, but now there is a bus station (Sichoprola bus) near the airport I can walk to for a bus to SD. If this is the case, I am not sure why many people suggested to contact Benjamin to take you to Higuey, isn't walking to the bus station near the airport is the cheapest way to get you to SD? Thanks for the clarification. Again sorry for my ignorance.

I am looking for the same information. My understanding is that there is a bus right outside the airport that will get you to Higuey and there you need to catch a different bus to Santo Domingo

There is a Sichoprola bus stop close to the airport but it's too far to walk to as well as not recommended since there's no sidewalk. You'd have to take a taxi or catch a public bus just outside the airport. It's only about 6-7 minutes away. From there you can catch a bus to Higuey and in Higuey transfer to Santo Domingo.

I was not sure about the bus near the airport. Therefore, I called Benjamin as recommended here, as soon as I walked out the airport, I saw him with my name on a piece of paper. It took us about 45 minutes to get to Higuey for 1000 pesos, I then took a bus from there to SD, it was only 2.5 hrs, this actually not too bad if you are not really really tight of budget, fast and convenience, plus the bus leaving very often. If you are travelling with alot of luggages or at least a big napsat, I would not recommend taking a bus from the airport to the near by bus station as the local bus can be very crowed, there is no space for you to put the luggage. I do not remember which bus company I took from Higuey to SD but I like that company because they put a tag on each bag and you will need it to claim your belongings so that you don't have to worry someone will take your luggages if they get off before you. Thanks to whoever gave me the info and this is the way I return the favor to the board. Happy travelling!

Benjamin gave you a great rate, so go on to recommend him.
1000 pesos is just a 30 US$, for tht the cabbies usually would bring you just to a nearby hotel.
to the other poster who asked about the sme transportation but is arriving at 7PM , that's too late to catch any kind of public transportation in front of the airport, if i remember it right the last local public bus passing by there is around 6:00 or 6:30PM.
the nearest Motel from the airport to be in the morning right away on the route for the bus to higuey and then to St Dgo would be the "Parador Punta Cana", in the middle of Veron. right at their front door you could catch the public bus to higuey in the morning, no other cabby needed, 1st bus leaves 6AM, 35 minutes ride to Higuey, they drop you off right at the bus station where the Express bus to santo domingo leaves every full hour, the 1st one at 7AM, travel time from higuey to St Dgo is around 2 1/2 hrs.
have fun
Mike
