Default Santiago to La Vega with no car

Hey all. I will be in Santiago for Serie del Caribe, and I was thinking of checking out carnaval in La Vega on Sunday 2/3. What's the best way to get from Santiago to La Vega and back if I'm not renting a car?

You can try Caribe Tours, which is what I did when I went to Santiago from La Vega. But during this time, those buses may be jam-packed.

There should be guaguas available on La Avenida Juan Pablo Duarte. Expect to pay around RD60 or so and really be squished for the ride. It will be fun, don't forget to smile - seriously.

This is the only country I know of where carpooling is an extreme sport!

Also don't forget not to stay to late in La Vega because the guaguas and Caribe stop running at night, so keep an extra $600-$1000 pesos in your pocket for a cab ride back.

Great advice....spoken like a true veteran!
But which pocket?! After an evening at La Vega your pesos may be pounded into indecipherable paste!!

Expresos La Vega run pretty much every 12 hour from the corner of Argentina and Estrella Sadhala..at least until 8:30 at night.
There are guaguas and mini buses leaving from the Parque de los Chachásis, at Sabana Larga and Independencia all the time.

Thanks for all the advice once again. I don't mind being squished on a guagua. Good call about not staying too late, besides I want to get back to Santiago to watch at least part of the Superbowl.

HB... i'm assuming you mean every 1/2 hour, not ever 12 hour?
