By driving, not recommended, or by bus it's way too much for 3 days. You'll spent it all traveling!

Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata is over 4 hour hours from bus station to bus station. More if you are coming from SDQ.

POP to Samana is not exactly simple overland. I'll leave it to the better informed to fill you in on that but I believe the regular route from Puerto Plata To Samana is through Santo Domingo. There may be a ferry you could use coming from Puerto Plata and going east but i'm not sure. Also there don't appear to be any flights between POP and EPS.
Regular Flights
although you could fly from SDQ to EPS and back, then bus from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata, if you cared to rearrange your schedule.

this may also give you an idea of the distances involved
Santo Domingo to Samana
and
buses from Sosua to Samana city

Thumbs up

I was dreaming about the ferry to Samana...it does not apply coming from Puerto Plata at all.

SD to Puerto Plata is over 4 hours by land each way. Puerto Plata to Samana is probably double that by way of SD...I hope you're flexible in your schedule and like flying in smallish planes.

Please let us know what you ended up doing and how it went. It's a very adventurous plan for a weekend.

it would take the better part of a day to get there and another to return. if it is in your budget the flight would be my choice, if not i'd take my time and do it in three days if you must. good luck and above all have a great time!

It's way too much.
Either drop Puerto Plata or the whale watching.
