Default Las Americas to Punta Cana International

I am sure you get this question all the time, but my husband and I are arriving at Las Americas airport on Friday morning and have to travel to Punta Cana airport. Can you tell me how long this will take about? How many miles is it? My husband and I will be on the road before 11am. Is it very unsafe? We are from New York adn pretty agressive drivers but I do not want to be put in an unsafe situation.

From the AILA, go out the gate, turn right and follow your nose to La Romana. then follow signs to Higuey.

then follow signs to Veron. Go through Veron, turn right at the more or less end of the road, follow that highway around to Punta Cana Airport on your left.

Key words to learn:

He guay?

Ver own?

Ah err oh puerto?

Muchas Gracias!!

Thank you SO much!

What do those questions mean? I tried to look them up but they didn't translate.

Thanks again!

They are English based phonetic pronounciations of Higuey, Beron, (towns on the way) and aeropuerto (airport).

Just as a hint.. the journey is so easy apart from two bits in Higuey where the signs are damaged or not there....

I will try and explain best I can so you can understand....

out the airport and go right, easily signposted for La Romana etc..

When you get to La Romana (about an hour later), there is a junction where you turn left, the City Centre is signposted straight on... TURN RIGHT, from there the road will go through the town and out again, towards Higuey. (I think its signed for Punta Cana or Bayahibe or something)

On reaching Higuey, about 40 mins later (depending on traffic and whether you drive crazy or not!), you will pass a bomba Isla (gas station ISLA) on the right, and immediately after that the road forks. You need to be in the LEFT LANE, and take the left fork. This will take you up the the Church which you may be able to see on your left.

Go alongside the church on the left and at the T junction at the end it will be signed for Punta Cana/Uvero Alto etc......, to the right.

Follow down and out of the town...

Now, I dont remember how far it is, but maybe about 5-10km out of the town, there is a junction, where the sign is broken over the road. I think there is a Popular bank on the right far corner. At this you turn right (before the Popular bank). Its a busy area and there are traffic lights so you shouldn't be going too fast. If you miss it, you're going a long long way out of your way......

after that, its easy, follow until eventually you get to another T, which is the highway, and you are only 2-3 km from the airport, probably at the end of the runway almost. Turn right, and there you are......

As said, it can take from 3-5 hours depending on your driving and traffic. If you've not driven the route before please please take heed, there are some nasty pot-holes along the road, especially around Higuey.

Hope I helped ;-)
