Santo Domingo (SDQ) to Jarabacoa

I am arriving in Santo Domingo in the evening (6pm) and am planning on driving by Van to Jarabacoa that evening with 4 adults and 3 kids. I am wondering if the road is decent and is it relatively safe to drive there in the evening. We only have 3 days before we have to be in Boca Chica so we are wanting to drive directly to Jarabacoa that evening instead of wasting the next morning. Any comments or suggestions? Also, is it a toll road and if so how much does it cost?

the road is pretty good to jarabacoa, the drive through sd might be a little scary, but after you should be ok....from la vega to jarabacoa the road is excellent, and the toll outside sd northbound for a van is rd50 i think....its rd30 for a car....take your time as you will be driving at night
