Bani to Matanzas

This is such a wonderful site.

I'll be staying in Santo Domingo and plan a couple of trips out of town. I have an appointment in Bani, and through this site, learned how to find a guagua to get there. I also need to visit with some folks in Matanzas.

Can anyone tell me the best way to get from Bani to Matanzas?
Is there a guagua? Where in Bani would I catch it?

I have considered renting a car for the day and driving to Matanzas. Even if I should brave the Dominican highway, would this be an economical decision?
