Post Dominican Garbage disposal(It,s The Law!!!)

By "LAW" all garbage(Including septic disposal) must be "Picked-Up" within 24 hours of being set out. The "new" contract was give to;"The Tooth Fairy",because the last contractor;"Tinker Bell" did not fullfil her "Contractual Obligations"! Sooooooo,if you "Believe" in the "Tooth Fairy",then you believe in "Garbage Pick-Up" in the Dominican Republic! CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Thumbs down sewage treatment

Hi Marc, if that is the case, then why are there certain items floating at the top of Sosua Bay and sitting along the bottom? What happens to the effluent from the hotels etc? Do they send it by truck or do they have their own self contained sewage treatment plants? I am thinking we may want to live in that area some day soon so am just curious about the how's and why's! Thanks!

ps- maybe the beach banos pump out into the bay, thinking that if they pump out far enough, things will be sent out to sea?

Default Sosua bay

Wizzmeister. Dominicans don't even flush toilet paper down the toilet, so whatever you are seeing is not from sewage it is from garbage. Dominicans throw garbage into the rivers. Rivers flush into the ocean, waves bring trash back into shore.

Beach banos haven't the capital to build a pipeline to carry sewage into the ocean, nor the capital to install the pumping capacity that would be required to achieve what you are talking about.

IMHO

Smile Eric...about Sosua Bay

Hi Eric, I have some breath taking photos of Sosua Bay if you care to see em! The place is gorgeous beyond belief..despite the comments about the water conditions. The water is a beautiful aquamarine color when the sun hits it, the sand a warm golden color....a place worth seeing so don't take it off the to-do list, please. Remember the finger wag for the vendors, as Marc suggested...rent a chair for the day, kick back and drink some beer or whatever you fancy and enjoy the spectacular view.

I have just booked a holiday for myself and my wife at Casa Marina Reef. I have read with interest the comments about porters at the airport and shopkeepers etc. I had the same experience a couple of years ago when we went to Ocho Rios in Jamaica. Our cases were quickly taken from us as soon as we left the airport building and taken to the bus that was taking us to the resort.

At the resort we soon learned not to go into the town when the cruise ships were there.(More vendors and hugher prices).

We were self catering in Jamaica and so we "went local" most days. The people were very friendly, and from looking at this board, it seems the same can be said for Sousa. SO I thing we will be venturing out from the AI occasionaly to see the "real DR".

Thanks for all the info so far; I only started looking today after we booked the holiday this morning. Arriving 2nd June for 14 days (from UK).

Perhaps the "feminine products" came from foreigners who flushed them because they didn't know better.
(It's hard to break some of those old habits)
