Cool Puerto Plata

I'm so glad I found this website!!! I need all the help I can get. My family and I are planning a trip over Christmas to the Dominican Republic. We are currently looking to stay at the Playa Naco Golf and tennis Reort in Puerto Plata. Has anybody stayed there? I want to know everything - the surrounding area, the hotel, the beach, the culture, what to expect?
Thanks for your advice, opinions and suggestions!!

If you need any assistance with travel plans for Puerto Plata, feel free to contact me at Funlocations@yahoo.com.

However, I do recommend staying at the smaller hotels because they offer the same amenities as the larger hotels , but maybe a tad cheaper as well as more personable.

I will be incountry for Christmas and New Years. I will be staying in Sosua which is 8 minutes from the Puerto Plata Airport. Meet me at Rockys in Sosua for a drink one night.

I am not very familiar with the Tourist resorts in Puerto Plata because I much prefer Sosua and Cabarete. I do like Costambar and Confressi also. Weather is real nice there. Beaches are beautiful. Car rental for a week ranges from 160- 350 a week depending on the car you rent.

Any specific questions you have post them.

Regards

`Playa Naco is neat and very nice. It is in the heart of the P;laya Dorada complex.

You are wise to book early since that is the most booked season of the year for flights to the DR. Everyone and his brother are returning home.

I think that this is a good choice since you can really just hang out and let them do everything for you. there are options.

there are a few very interesting places in Puerto Plata that you will learn about. Lots of things to do. There is a shoppiong mall right there, and golf, Tennis and all the water stuff.

You will enjoy it...

Sandra - Thanks for your reply and your email. My family and I have confirmed our stay at the Playa Naco. I will keep your email handy when we get closer to our visit b/c I know we want to venture out and see the real DR.

Jazzcom - I will take you up on the offer for a drink. My specific questions are what is the surrounding area like? Can you venture out at night? Besides activities at the hotel, what other kind of activities are available?

Hillbilly - What do you mean by in the heart of the Playa Dorada complex? We are using my timeshare and will be upgrading to all inclusive (more than likely we will not eat at the hotel everyday b/c they tend to cater to tourists- we want authenthic DR food plus I like the idea of all the national drinks included in one price). have you stayed here before? If so, what is the beach like?

Anybody who can offer more, please d so. What else should we do and definitely see!

My pleasure - I have a real nice horseback riding tour - which is a 2 for 1 tour - horseback riding in the mountains and river rafting - its a great tour that I sell - and everyone that I've sent there truly enjoyed it.

Just something to keep in mind.

There are many beautiful areas that cater to tourists with beautiful beaches. You don't have to worry abuut going out at night at all. I have roamed the streets in the middle of the night and the biggest problem I have had is saying NO to the girls that want me. (actually my money)

Check out Cabarete, Sosua to the east and Costambar and Confressi to the west. All withing a half hour drive or closer.

I love this area and I have been 6x in the last year. I would have been more often but HAD to go to Mexico when the plane fare was out of this world to the DR.

Keep in touch and lets touch base closer to Christmas. I am leaving on a 6:45 am flight on Christmas day and returning on the 6th of January.

Regards

Check out the left side bar at http://dr1.com/travel/index.shtml

Also see the destinations listed as Puerto Plata (Playa Dorada), Cabarete, Sosua, Playa Grande for more within a one hour driving range from Playa Dorada.

Default I'm on my Way!!!

Thanks to everyone who has replied and helped me get my plans confirmed.

I was working with my timeshare company and my family members who all have different requests in a vacation. Can you imagine the pain and suffering I went through to complete this trip.

We are definietley staying at the Playa Naco but our dates have now changed - We're coming Dec. 14th - 21st. [Jazzcom: looks like we'll be missing each other. I'll have a drink in your honor if you do the same for me!].

Through my "extensive research" I have found that Playa Naco is top-notch, the beaches are great, the people are great, there is lots of things to do in Puerto Plata and that I can venture out from the hotel grounds.

I am still trying to find out what this statement means: "Playa Naco is neat and very nice. It is in the heart of the Playa Dorada complex" What is Playa Dorado?

My other question is yes we can fly into Puerto Plata but what about flying into Santo Domingo and then driving or cabbing it to Puerto Plata. This would give us an opportunity to see more of DR. How far would the drive be and what kind of costs can I expect to pay for this?

I'm sure I'll be back with more questions so please just hang in there with me!!

Four hour nasty drive and I believe a 150 US cab ride. Nasty. Rent a car in Puerto Plata and explore from there.

Too bad about the timing. I will have a Presidente and a Brugal Cuba Libre in your honor when I get there. Go to Rockys bar in Sosua and tell Marco to buy you a drink on me. Tell him I said to buy you one also. Nice place and he will introduce you to a bunch of expats that hang there. Real friendly group.

While in Sosua check out Eddys Sports Bar also. Eddy is a great guy and he has beautiful Domincan ladies workingthere.

Have a ball!

Regards
