I have heard that many business in DR add a large fee/percentage to credit card charges. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge? Many thanks D

The most I've seen is 7%. They are not supposed to be allowed to do this, however they are just making up for what the credit card companies charge them.

Default PS

They will also add on any sales tax that someone paying cash would not have to pay. The reason is that the Dominican tax people have access to these and will charge the businesses for that income.

Default I always use my credit card

when in the DR and have never been charged "extra" to make up for the percentage the vendors pay to the credit card companies altho' I have had to pay the sales tax on items that I have charged to the card whereas if I had paid cash the vendor has told me he would not charge the tax.
