Default Homecoming?

So here I am, 23 years old and suffering from a terrible itch to move back to the DR.

Backstory: Lived with my parents for most of my childhood in Santo Domingo and Barahona. It's been some time now, and I can't help feeling I've got a big part of my past missing that I want to move back to and explore.

So now I'm asking myself; "Jorge, what the heck are you going to do with yourself?" ( Despite my name, I am a gringo )

To be honest, I'm quite worried but I know it's what I want to do right now in my life before I get bogged down here in the states with all that life entails.

I've got a broad range of skills and my spanish comes back very quickly when I'm immersed again.

I guess what I'm asking is if anyone has any suggestions for what I should do for $$$. I think I will have little problem getting down there, and have a few family friends who could set me up for a while, but I really don't want to impose any longer than I have to.

Also, what are people's opinions of Barahona? I would love to move back there more than SD, something about city life bothers me, but of course visiting is still very essential.

I commend you for wanting to explore your roots. When you say "broad range of skills", what do those include? Are they skills that can be applied in the DR? Unemployment is high, jobs are few. Personally, I love Barahona. For the Barahona region, you are going to need that Spanish. Best of luck!

Post job experience and a question

I guess I should start off by stating I've held a great variety of jobs.

As a computer tech I've handled sales, support, but mostly maintenance. I've been a shipping and reciving manager, worked up a really nice access database for that job.. they still use it today. I've worked in a hardware store and did some "handymaning" on the side for quite some time. I also ran a laser tag joint in town for a while, worked as a security guard, did some data entry for a while, and I've even worked in a lumber yard. heh

Anyways, I've found I can get into about any job if shown the ropes properly, but my best stuff has been done while working on computers. ( Yea, I'm a geek. ) I'd post my resume but that would be going too far.

Maybe some of you who live down there can tell me this: Are there good internet service providers down there? Is broadband available?

Okay, by keeping busy do you mean being able to find work or being able to find internet access?
