Default Distance between Rio San Juan and Playa Dorada?

Hi all,

I am going to Rio San Juan on the 21st this month and it will be my 1st time in DR.

From what I´ve seen through the net I know I won´t be very happy with the beach at my Hotel (Bahia Principe, San Juan), coming from Portugal I am used to really nice beaches!!

My question is: where can I find a nice white sand / transparent water beach near my Hotel?

I have heard that Playa Dorada and Samana have nice beaches, but I don´t know the distances (if possible distances in Km, please).

Muchas gracias a todos!!

Claudi

You can go to the beach at Playa Grande, about 6 kms to the East of Río San Juan. I think you will like it....In fact I am sure you will...Just past the golf course..

From RSJ to POP is about an hour by car, maybe 45 minutes.
YOu could go to Sosua that has a beautiful beach, and is 20 minutes closer. There are also some nice little beaches hidden in that area...Just past the sea entrance to Laguna Gri-Grí, there is a tiny, quiet beach...absolutely beautiful.. Try it...

There's a small beach very close to Bahia Principe called Caletón. It´s much closer than Playa Dorada or Sosua. I also agree with Hillbilly on the Playa Grande recommendation.

Lots of lovely beaches in your area, see http://dr1.com/travel/playagrande/

My recommendation would be to stay on the North Coast between the provinces of Puerto Plata and Maria Trinidad Sanchez unless you will be staying for two weeks.

Go to the travel content pages and read under the Destinations links (left side bar) about Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete and Playa Grande (see link provided in first paragraph). Lots to do and see on the North Coast.

Plan a repeat visit and spend at least a week in Samana.

The most beautiful beach is Caleton. I haven't been there in a while, but in driving by I noticed a new road to it. I hope is hasn't changed too much . When we spent some time in Rio San Juan we went to Caleton daily. It was great, there were women on the beach who would cook lunch for you, lobster, fish etc. Really off the beaten path, but at that time there were no resorts in Rio San Juan or Plata Grande. I hope it hasn't chnaged much!!
