Question Punta Cana--Red Tide

Hi, Does anyone know anything about Punta Cana having a problem with Red Tide? Is there a particular season that is more problematic then others?

I really appreciate any information anyone may have. Thanks

I've never heard of red tide in the Caribbean. It's mostly found in the Gulf of Mexico especially on Florida's west coast.

I know the beaches of Bavaro Punta Cana for 16 years and never saw or heard about red tide here.

I work at a travel agency in the US and I had never heard of a problem either. But one of our clients told us that they had been unable to swim because of it. Maybe she is confused about what the problem was.

Thanks All!

Your clients may have been referring to sea lice which are an occasional problem in warm sub-tropical waters. There are also certain litle jellyfish, mostly stinging nettles, that pose problems at different times, but that is also not a common occurance.

We are getting to send a big group in June or July. What are the water conditions like around then? I know the mosquitos are bad earlier in the season. Are certain areas better than others for the sea lice? Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it.

Talking What Red Tide?

I just got back a while ago from my daily morning walk and swim at Bavaro Beach (Punta Cana). The water was clear and refreshing, the sun hot, a slight breeze, and the women beautiful. No red tide, sea lice, jellyfish, sea snakes or any other thing that would detract from the enjoyment. Regards, PJT

Lightbulb No Problem with Boca Chica either

I was there in July and September and the only thing that washed up on the beach was a dead human body. And it was the one person on the beach not trying to sell souveniers or beach chairs, so no disturbance at all.
