The south , particularly Boca Chica, Juan Dolio and La Romana have the nicer beaches and tend to be a tad more expensive. If you stay in say BC or JD your proximity to the Capital is great for a day trip of sightseeing. On the other hand the North has nice beaches and its proximity to Santiago (cigar capital of the world) make it an equally desireable destination. Your choice! Chicas all over the place.

Depends on what you are looking for. For example, if you like wind surfing, or activities of that nature, then Cabarete on the north coast is one of the best places in the world. If you want a beautiful area that is not overrun with tourists and has a great beach, then Las Galeras outside of Samana is the best place to go. Las Terrenas on the north coast of the Samana Peninsula has a 35 km beach and small hotels on the beach.

If you tell us what are the most important things for you, then we can be more helpful. Pluses and minuses are a very individual thing. What one person calls pluses, another may call minuses.
