US Dollars divided by DR overall trip enjoyment= Best Value
Hi All,
I was planning on taking a trip down to heaven (DR). Leaving on Wed. 9/27/02 Due to the possible hurricane/tropical storm I'm not a 100% sure If I'll be able to make it. I'll canoe my way If I have to, but I'm traveling with friends and family.
But, My question is this:
I'm about to pull the trigger on staying in Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata, approx $50USD per day per person. I will definitely plan on traveling to santiago for a couple of days. Based on this boards vast inside knowledge of DR. Do you all feel I can do better elsewhere?
I've been to playa dorada b/4, I liked the all inclusive's; food, drinks, pool, beach etc.
But, I'll be damned if I spend my whole stay confined to this resort. So, I will be traveling. Any suggestions.

Not sure what you are thinking about, jdiaz. Are you planning on staying at Playa Dorada, and move out from there for day trips. Or is your group thinking about moving from a hotel in one location to a hotel in another?
BTW, based on current projections, you should experience no more than some clouds and rain on the north coast, including Santiago.

ApartHotel Lomar on the Maleco has 2 x dble beds in each room, airconditioning, constant power (They tell me, unless power goes off during the night whilst they are sleeping), cable TV but NO cooking facilities. Costs only US $25 per night for each room. Puerto Plata Beach Resort (just up the road, has 1 x dble bed, put you up in lounge, cooking facilities AND swimming pool. Cost US $27 per night for each room/apartment.
You pays your money & you takes your choice - I like Puerto Plata Beach Resort for comfort & quietness!!
If you want to meet up whilst your down, give me a call & we will arange something. E-mail or PM me for Tel No. - Grahame.

I can see the wisdom of BushBaby's post...Depending on what you are going to do on the day trips - Which I can understand will be interesting - you might be spending too much to stay at an All Inclusive. You lose the food and the drinks....Staying at one of the places that BushBaby spoke of will be better for your pocketbook...And you have the facilities like a pool and the ocean right there.
don't sweat the hurricane...just some clouds and some rain.. cools things off for a while....
HB, who will have a beer or two with you if you call....
