Default Looking Around

I'm no expert on the matter. I can only report my experiences. But it does seem to me that typhoid is more a disease of uncleanliness and that this is less likely to occur in the resorts where there would be liability. I also believe that the Red Cross blood donation advisory limits the area of possible malaria exposure to rural areas adjacent to the Haitian border.

In regard to leaving the resort and looking around, by all means do so, especially if you know a few words of Spanish. I'll say this, though: Driving at night in the DR is an exponentially greater risk than malaria or typhoid. Road conditions are unpredictable and driving is nuts, so be careful.

Default Typhoid fefer, Typhus, and Cholera are all hand-mouth illnesses

What i tell people are ****-eating illnesses. You play with something dirty and, without thinking, put your hand in your mouth-eating fingernails, handling food without washing your hands, etc..

Yes, I would say that, with this one child, you should get the shots. Can't hurt, and if you are going to be travelling where I think you are going, it is just a bit safer.

Good thinking on your part by the way,

HB
