Question Punta Cana and bringing gifts...17 days!

Hello,
I am going to Punta Cana for the first time (second to DR) on October 27th and staying at Carabela Bavaro Resort. I am thrilled to be going back to this beautiful country.
My question is: I would like to bring gifts, pens, pencils, paper, stickers and such to the children of the area. I once read about a school in the area but would like to know exactly where it is and if my unannounced visit would be welcome. I work at a college and want to ask my coworkers to donate as well but am a bit worried about my charter flight harassing me for too much luggage. Experiences?
Thank you for any information you can share. It is important to me to share with this beautiful country.

The public school is actually close to your hotel. When you leave the hotel turn right and follow the main road, after a couple of hundred yards it makes a sharp right turn and from there it's another couple of hundred yards on the left hand side. I think you will make these kids very happy.

Talking Thank you

Thanks for the directions Mido, that's very helpful. I hope to be able to get to the school while I am in DR. If for some reason I didn't go to the school myself, do you think I could ask the hotel people to help me get there or get the donations to the school? I appreciate your feedback.

I would think that you would enjoy that little trip a lot more if you went there and gave the things to the Director of the school, or to one of the teachers. Just to see those kid's faces light up will make the trip...

oooh...I totally agree. I guess maybe it is that I am a bit shy and uncomfortable in situations where I don't know people. I also wouldn't want to come to a school during class and interrupt. I truly love people...I just tend to be a bit shy.
I love seeing the smiling happy faces of children in the Caribbean, the people are the reason I travel to the Caribbean.
Thank you for your comment though, I completely agree that there would be nothing as nice as giving the donations myself.

Sorry, it is a sharp LEFT turn, not RIGHT turn.

Cheryl,
I agree with HB, make a special trip. You will not regret it. And you all will always remember it.

Cheryl, my name is Paul, I am a guide for Out Back Jeep Safari. Our company has a charity program supporting schools with teaching aids, school supplies and providing water tanks, sports equipment ect. If you dont get to go to the school yourself, just stop one of our jeeps (cant miss us, were everywhere) and give the guide or driver your package and we GUARANTEE it will be donated to a local school(s). For more info on the program check out www.outbacksafari.com.do Who knows maybe even see you on our tour. Wish more people brought school supplies, its so much better than candy or a few pesos.
