I have used Orange, and although I never audited it exactly, the rate seems to be much higher than 5.5 per minute - more in the range of 8 pesos per minute NOMINALLY. Don't forget to add the 11% tax, either, since you pay 100 pesos for 90 pesos' worth of calls.

Toll free number for access from a pay phone. I've used various cards with 800 numbers in the DR that use 800 numbers that do work from DR payphones. I really don't know the details of this particular card, but I do know that the company selling them will refund your money if you have a problem.

make sure you look into that if you're planning to make any calls home.
You can buy calling cards here that are a very cheap way to call or you can call direct only an Idiot would call collect from a carribean Island without knowing there would be a huge surcharge, als do not use phone in your hotel as the calls will be double in price go to codetel or tricom office.Travellers cheques are exchanged at a higher rate than cash, credit card a must in case of medical or other emergency.

lovie, you should start a new thread with your question. The question is so unrelated to the rest of this thread that it won't be seen by the people most likely to be able to provide the desired information.

The etiquette of the board is not to introduce a new subject into a thread, but to start a new thread instead.

Welcome to the message board.

See www.BocaChicaBeach.net/money.html I've investigated and outlined a variety of tecniques for moving money to the DR. Of particular interest is one that lets you send thousands of dollars with a credit card for a flat fee of US$10.
