Hotel is owned by the government and was being run by Occidental. It was not being well maintained. Without an airport, Samana has had to sell low cost packages to tour companies to get any sort of occupancy, and recent years have been down years there.
There are signs that better days are coming for Samana. Both the regional airport and the highway from Santo Domingo should boost Samana's prospects considerably. I anticipate that at some point the hotel will be restored and reopened.
