driving from east to north

I am planning on driving from the east (bc) and head north with 1-2 day stops 'til PP.
Is it as simple as following the coastal road or will I run out of road? Are detours necessary? Any advise, info needed and appreciated.
By the way...What happened with ricktoronto and the ultimate persuit of the definitive exchange rate?
