I am going to Sosua in November for 14 days and I am a keen runner, I have heard that there isnt much scope for beach running so I was wonderinf if there is a Gym in the nearby area? All information gretaly appreciated.

There are two gyms in Sosua, the Golden Park which is on the way out of Sosua in the direction of Cabarete and the M&S Gym which is on the 3rd floor of the building next to the Texaco station. I am a regular at the M&S Gym and highly recommend it. It is much better managed than the other. It has a full range of machines, plus free weights. You enter the stairs that take you to the gym from the side away from the Texaco station. I prefer the mornings or early afternoons because there are less people than in the late afternoon.

Are the gym's close to the Casa Marina resorts, and do you know the prices, thats if they do short term membership.

Yes, the gyms are close to Casa Marina. I live about same distance from M&S as Casa Marina and it takes only 5 or 10 minutes to walk to gym.

They do short term. I'm going now and will check on the prices. I'll post the prices or send them to you, but as I recall, for two weeks the price would be about US$15. A month would be about $20. The longer the period, the cheaper the daily price.

Prices at M&S Gym for temporary membership:

RD$75: one day
RD$300: one week
RD$500: two weeks
RD$600: three weeks
RD$750: month

Don't know what the exchange rate will be in November, but it has been in the 30s for awhile. (US$1=RD$30+)

Hey, it's a bit of a way from Sosua but the beach at Cabarete is awash with joggers from 06.00am every morning!!!

how far is abit of a way, anyone know a good website with a map of the DR, also Ken is the conversion rate Dominican dollars?

You all jus' run down the highway. Our drivers jus' love new "meat" to aim at!!

If you want beach running, go to Macao on the eastern end of the island and you can have 25 kilometers of uninterrupted beach...
