Anna, always the voice of reason..... it might actually be helpful to merge the two if it can be done without a lot of pain. Sorry, Forbeca, I was downright ungentlemanly...and to be sure those girls are going to have a great time no matter where they end up.

Best, P

Jessnyc: If you've got the money, go to Casa de Campo in LaRamana. My son went there last year and spent the whole time with college kids from Santo Domingo and other kids from the states that were down at their winter homes. There is plenty to do, great disco, bars, etc. Nice but small beach.

The kids I saw him with were all clean cut and mannerly - and most knew some english. When you want to get out of the resort, you can taxi on up to Boca Chica and rub shoulders with the locals there.

hey again everybody,

guess I was a little lost...

jessnyc, sorry maybe I was out of context...

however, being away from sankies and mixing with "as many classy dominicans as possible" are two entirely diferent things.

one will indicate that you want to have a nice vacation without being annoyed by unwarranted advances by certain type of local guys, while the other would point towards a rather extremely light or snobish (which by all means you are free to choose) approach to a vacation in a country such as this.

Under this "new" light, I can totally recomend Cabarete. relaxed atmosphere, nice people local and foreign and not so many sankies chasing after women as women chasing after them.

A simple word of advice to make your trip more enjoyable and safe, after many years in the Island: I have seen all sorts of behavior, also when it comes to treating women, by dominican guys (actually guys all over the world) regardless of color, status, class, education, etc.

in any case, hope you mixe witht he right (for your taste) crowd and have a good time if you visit D.R.

cheers

Robin Mathew
